Marriage Between a Man and a Woman

Three states - Arizona, Florida, and California all had initiatives on their respective state ballets proposing a Constitutional Amendment advocating Marriage between a Man and a Woman. All three states passed these measures.

This experience has been an amazing one in California. Proposition 8 passed with a 52% - 47% margin. Marriage in California is now in the Constitution as only between a Man and a Woman. As is expected, law suits have already been filed to claim that the Constitutional Amendment is unconstitutional...huh? The law suits are claiming infringement on civil rights. This is a moral issue, not a civil rights issue. It has far reaching consequences on the family, children, and society. Click here for a statement on these law suits.

One thing that has come out of this for us, is the importance we are placing on the family. We are seeing the prophetic call being re-emphasized to have Family Home Evening, Family Scripture Study, and Family Prayer. We are seeing that the time we spend with our family is becoming more and more a priority over other things. Every opportunity we can take to teach correct doctrine and principles in the home seems more important. We need to counter what is being taught in society and the schools, in regards to moral issues. No one is perfect, but we can put forth a better effort.

Hayley and I have not been involved in a visible moral movement like this before. It turned very ugly, with members of the Church being called haters and bigots. At times when we were sign waving on corners, things would be thrown at us, and lots of obscene language and gestures were made. But through it all, it was amazing how it caused people to go out the next day and do the same thing. More and more members got involved as election day came closer. These experiences strengthened the resolve of so many members including us, that we were standing up for the Lords plan and the founding unit in that plan, The Family. We love our family, and now see Satan's deceptive plan to destroy it more clearly. The good news, we know the outcome - he will not win. But he can take casualties along the way.

We were honored and humbled to answer a call from the Prophet and fight for The Family.

We are so grateful for the gospel. We testify it is true. The Family is ordained of God, and is central to His plan. The root of the family unit is Marriage between a Man and a Woman.
